Selected Proceedings of the Conference on Modern Technologies for Diagnosis and Treatment of Diseases of the Internal Organs, 25-27 November, 2014; Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Dear Colleagues,

We are honored that the first Supplement of the IJBM is dedicated to the Republican Specialized Scientific-Practical Medical Center of Therapy and Rehabilitation (RSSPMCT&R). This Center was created in 2007 on the basis of the Research Institute of Therapy and Rehabilitation and Research Center of Gastroenterology, which is the oldest medical institution of the Republic of Uzbekistan with more than 90 years of history. Today it is successfully working on implementation of advanced medical technologies in everyday practice and performs research work on various modern directions of therapy and rehabilitation. One of the priority tasks of the Center is provision of highly qualified, specialized, high-technology medical care and rehabilitation to adults and children on the level of advanced world standards. The Center also performs research aimed at developing and implementing into medical practices its own progressive methods and technologies of prevention, diagnostics, and treatment of internal diseases. There are four working scientific departments in the Center: diseases of the cardiovascular system, diseases of the respiratory system, diseases of the digestive system, and diseases of the locomotive system. More than 1,500 research works have been published by the Center’s scientists. Clinical units are represented by the in-patient units for adults (240 beds) and for children (160 beds), and include an admission unit, rheumatology, cardiology with an intensive care unit, cardio-rehabilitation, cardio-cerebral disorders, gastro-enterology, hepatobiliary disorders, pulmonology with clinical allergology, physiotherapy, balneology, and mud treatment. Diagnostic tests are performed in laboratories furnished with modern equipment. Every year about 8,000 patients receive treatment and about 20,000 patients receive advice and guidance.

The Center regularly organizes scientific conferences and congresses with participation of foreign countries, where the current issues of internal diseases are highlighted. These events establish close collaboration with leading scientists from foreign countries. The main materials of the last conference "Modern Technologies for Diagnosis and Treatment of Diseases of the Internal Organs," held on 25–27 November, 2014, in Tashkent became the basis for the Supplement to the December issue of the IJBM. This is a unique opportunity to communicate to the international medical scientific community and we are very proud of this event.
